S+T+ARTS ha pubblicato la nuova open call “Repairing the present” per borse di studio agli artisti in grado di contribuire al cambiamento sociale, culturale ed economico. 

S+T+ARTS intende affrontare le conseguenze non volute di uno sviluppo tecnologico costante che contribuisce alle attuali sfide sociali, economiche e ambientali verso un futuro sostenibile dell'UE.  Attraverso la call "Repairing the Present" mira a portare la propria missione a livello regionale e a coinvolgere le comunità nello sviluppo di soluzioni innovative ai problemi che devono affrontare, attingendo al potenziale degli artisti per agire come catalizzatori del cambiamento e contribuire attivamente all'innovazione. L’obiettivo della open call è creare le strutture necessarie per questo cambiamento.

L’open call offrirà 21 borse di studio per artisti internazionali per trovare soluzioni alle sfide individuate, incoraggiando gli artisti a criticare il presente, esplorare oltre i suoi limiti attuali e reimmaginare futuri sostenibili. 

Gli artisti possono candidarsi per un massimo di 3 sfide e le proposte collegheranno l'arte e la tecnologia per proporre una soluzione con valore funzionale e artistico a un problema della vita reale. Inoltre, gli artisti dovrebbero mirare a rompere le vecchie dicotomie tra arte autonoma e applicata e creare spazio per nuovi approcci.

Il bando è aperto a singoli artisti professionisti e collettivi di qualsiasi campo legato all'arte, pronti a collaborare con una rete di esperti e professionisti della tecnologia (ICT) nell'affrontare le sfide locali.  

Con un budget di 840.000 euro nel prossimo anno, "Repairing the Present" sosterrà i candidati selezionati attraverso un programma che include una borsa di studio di 6 mesi a partire da febbraio 2022, oltre a mostre multiple ed eventi. Il programma include il finanziamento della borsa di studio di 40.000 euro, il mentoring, l'accesso agli esperti e la formazione. 

La scadenza per partecipare è il 21 novembre 2021.

12 Regional S + T + ARTS Centers from 11 different countries have set out to address the unintended consequences of steadfast technological development contributing to the European continent's present social, economic, and environmental challenges.

To repair the present, the EU's economy must be transformed and adapted for the sustainable future we all want. The Regional S+T+ARTS Centers focus on a ​resource, urban​, ​ICT & ​art-driven​ transformation as the path towards reconfiguring the current social, cultural and economic landscape.

This reconfiguration can only be done with the involvement of different perspectives and by tapping into artists’ potential to act as catalysts for change and actively contribute to innovation. We propose shifting the role of artists from that of observers and critics of societal contexts into that of active participants in the reimagination and building of possible futures. With Repairing the Present, we want to create the frameworks needed for this shift.
As a first step, each Regional S+T+ARTS Center has gathered a group of local experts and together defined 21 challenges in their localities. The 21 challenges have been informed by the EU Green Deal, the New European Bauhaus and the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals to reflect pan-European or global issues that nonetheless, require a focus on local regions.

The international artists join in coming up with solutions to these challenges in 21 artist fellowships. The fellowships will encourage artists to critique the present, explore beyond its current limitations and reimagine sustainable futures.

The artists should have a strong motivation to help change behaviours, reduce waste, fight climate change, improve energy efficiency or make cities and communities more sustainable - in essence, a motivation to challenge existing actions and propose more responsible and sustainable ones. Besides the motivation, artists should have proven experience working with technologies (with a focus on ICT technologies) and integrating them into their artistic practice.

The call is open to professional individual artists and collectives from any art-related field, excited and ready to collaborate with a network of experts and technology (ICT) professionals in addressing local challenges.

The goal of the proposals should be the development of a thought-provoking hybrid between an artwork and a prototype that seamlessly bridges between art and technology and proposes a solution with both functional and artistic value to a real-life issue. Furthermore, artists should aim to break the old dichotomies between autonomous and applied art and create space for novel approaches.

Artists can apply for up to 3 challenges. Artists are only eligible for one fellowship. 

The program includes funding of the 40,000 euro fellowship, mentoring, access to experts and training.
