Dobar Dan Keramika!

Croatia 2018

Prigorje Museum

“ByFire” – an International Exhibition of Contemporary Ceramics will be held from May 20 to June 3, 2018, at Prigorje Museum, Trg Dragutina Domjanića 5, Sesvete. Opening: Sunday, May 20, 2018, at 7.00 p.m.

Guided by the desire to preserve the tradition of making pottery in the North-West of Croatia, the ceramic artist Marina Blažek built independently, in summer of 2017, on the family farm Sovinjak, a pit firing kiln for pottery using the primitive firing methods. She invited her colleagues to join her this spring at the first kiln firing. During this event, everyone will be offered the opportunity to fire the pottery by ‘pit firing’ technique. The main idea is to apply the traditional ceramic firing method to the contemporary ceramic pieces.

The meeting will be held at Sovinjak from May 4 to May 6 and fourteen ceramic artists from three countries will take part: Tatjana Hlacer, Anja Slapnicar, Živa Slavec and Dani Žbontar from Slovenia; Nataša Bojanić from Serbia; Sandra Ban, Nada Benc Štuka, Lidija Boševski, Marina Blažek, Nadica Eichhorn, Narcisa Galaž, Ljubica Lovrenčić, Danijela Pičuljan and Snježana Pokos Vujec from Croatia.

Besides the ceramic works, two videos to demonstrate the process of the kiln building and the first firing of the kiln respectively are aimed to be an integral part of this exhibition.

This exhibition is a Croatian contribution to the international event ‘Good Morning Ceramics’, which will be held throughout Europe from May 19 to May 20, with the aim of promoting ceramic tradition and art.

The Sovinjak family farm is located in Planina Gornja, near the city of Zagreb, in the Medvednica Nature Park. More information about the Meeting of ceramic artists at Sovinjak family farm and the exhibition “ByFire” will be available soon on the web page of the Prigorje Museum: https://www.muzejprigorja.hr/.
